Sainsburys WRAS- cheque presentation 6th July 2015

Sainsbury’s Heathfield has raised £3,068 for East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS), as part of the Local Charity of the Year scheme.

WRAS was set up in order to provide a front-line rescue service for wildlife casualties who unlike their domesticated cousins do not have owners to help look after them. WRAS covers a large area of East Sussex, operates four veterinary ambulances and a Wildlife Hospital. They receive over 2,500 calls for help a year and are celebrating their 20th year and founder Trevor Weeks’ 30th year helping wildlife.

The group was chosen by customers and colleagues last June and has received support from the store for the past year.

Activities have included a Summer Fayre, Doghouse event- (Colleagues from Store and Trevor Weeks from WRAS took turns to be locked in the ‘Doghouse’ and were only released when their pledge amount was raised using their mobile phone to contact friends and Donations from our Customers), Easter Colouring Competition, Bookstall and Cake Sales in the Colleague canteen

Chris Sharp, Store Manager of Sainsbury’s Heathfield, said:

“We’ve had an excellent year supporting Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service, our customers and colleagues have got involved with a number of fundraising activities. We’d like to thank everyone at Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service for making it such a brilliant partnership.”

Trevor Weeks MBE, Founder of Wildlife Rescue, added:

“We have been amazed at the support we have received at the store, the staff and customers have been fantastic. We’d like to thank everyone at Sainsbury’s in Heathfield for their support over the past year. It has made such a difference to WRAS and we’re extremely grateful for the donations and awareness we’ve been able to raise. The number of calls to casualties has really increased in Heathfield as a result meaning Sainsburys have helped us save many more lives that we would have previously been able to. I’m really proud of what they have achieved.”
