Mumbai Memoir 127- Exploring ‘coolers’ to combat the ‘heat’ of the lockdown!
Its been almost 2 months since the lockdown in Mumbai, and the pace of the city has almost come to 10% of what it used to be in its prime functionality. The over-crowded streets with cars and people are almost a picture of the past. The weather department has predicted that the monsoon will arrive around 5th June and I now wonder about the look of Mumbai during the monsoon, if in case the lockdown extends!
But as of now, the Sun’s heat is blazing and is hurting both the eyes and skin as one stands in the balcony of one’s home to gaze around the world outside. In such times cool juices come to rescue, but due to the limited groceries and veggies that one has access to, it becomes difficult to make coolers. But one can be creative with whatever is available. Last week I made ‘Lemon-Honey-Chia Fusion’ drink. It may sound some complicated drink, but its just a harmonious blend of sweet lemon juice with a spoon full of honey, topped with soaked Chia seeds. (Soaked chia seeds are known for its cooling properties and its recommended for stabilizing the heat in one’s body). Keep the mixed juice in the refrigerator for an hour or add ice cubes to it and drink it thereafter. It’s a heavenly feeling as the cool drink goes down one’s throat and beats the heat!
Besides beating the outside heat by the fusion drink, yet another ‘cool’ thing happened last week. It was my pleasure to present an international webinar from the comfort of my home! A France based Business School- Emlyon Business School (EBS), had invited me to conduct a webinar for their India based students. The B-School has started a program called ‘#CareShareDare’ initiative, which brings together students of EBS (https://www.em-lyon.com/en) and also various people from the global society, in order to create a sense of community and safety to smoothly sail through the pandemic. It was a proud feeling that my training school ‘School of Emotional Intelligence’ (https://www.mindmatterz.net/Psychological-Skills-Training.php) was invited to present this webinar through the Emlyon Business School-India program, which truly believes and also beautifully acts on the slogan-‘#WeAreInThisTogether’!
It this webinar I shared psychological perspective on managing a V.U.C.A world, that the pandemic has brought along (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEU07-hK3UI) V.U.C.A is an acronym that stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity & Ambiguity. The V.U.C.A concept was drawn out of Leadership theories of Warren Bennis & Bert Nanus (1987) Thereafter U.S Military and world-wide organizations adopted it to develop strategic leadership approaches to tackle crisis. The 1 & half hour webinar aimed to help the attendees to develop Mental Immunity during difficult times and to offer them ‘hacks’ to see the positive in the negative that is happening around us. The response to my presentation was positive, which was nothing less than a ‘cool’ feeling in midst of the discomforting ‘heat’ of the Mumbai lockdown!
