HALF TERM FAMILY FUN
By Ann Evans
It’s almost Half Term, and if you don’t want the kids driving you mad not knowing what to do with their free time, then you could turn the tables and get them driving… on four wheels – under strict supervision of course!
Here’s a chance for the kids to learn new skills in a different kind of classroom. On Monday 20 February, Daytona, the UK’s premier kart track is offering children aged 8 to 15 years an insight into the high octane world of motor sport at its specially designed Junior Race School at their Tamworth venue.
Girls and boys will get the opportunity to learn the fine art of kart racing as well as have a ‘real-world’ driving experience – all under the careful supervision of Daytona’s professional tuition team.
Daytona’s Junior Race School comprises essential theory; safety, mechanics, circuit layout and of course, plenty of on-track racing. Driving Daytona’s superb Junior and Cadet karts, students learn the art of smooth cornering and slick overtaking – and every lap is timed so they can monitor their improvement throughout the day.
Additionally, throughout the half-term holiday (20-24 February) Daytona is open daily for Junior Arrive & Drive. All levels from first-timers through to Race School graduates can enjoy 20 minute on-track sessions. for a discounted price of £18.00 including VAT. Safety briefing and all equipment (race suits, gloves, helmets) is provided along with individual timed-lap printouts to take home afterwards.

BRITISH MOTOR MUSEUM
Still on a motoring theme, this spring the British Motor Museum at Gaydon, Warwickshire is launching its new under 5’s Mini Motorists mornings and themed Saturday Clubs.
Get interactive with your toddler with the museum’s Mini Motorists under 5’s activities and explore the world’s largest collection of historic British cars with your child through various play activities between 10.30am and 12pm.
The Saturday Clubs run as four, six week, blocks of one hour sessions covering topics from engineering to coding. As well as developing the child’s skills, the clubs also provide a fun and interactive environment where they can make new friends.
If your children are into computers, they might like the museum’s Computing Saturday Club which runs from 4th March to 8th April. Children can expand their knowledge of computing and create their own 3D animation. The workshops will be staffed by ComputerXplorers, a specialist education technology company running computing classes and after school clubs, and the British Motor Museum Saturday Club Team.
Parents will be given weekly update sheets which explain what the children have achieved and give tips on how to further their learning. The topics will be tailored to each age group and the Club will run from 10.30am – 11.30am for 5 – 8 year olds and 11.45am to 12.45am for 9 – 11 year olds.
Also from 18th to 26th February you can go along and join in with a week of LEGO Brick Building Challenges, including making a life-size Mini out of LEGO. Also specially for the under 5s, there’s a designated are for them where they can build a car out of large soft foam bricks.
