Get ready for the loudest, most exciting show of the year – The Tanks, Trucks & Firepower Show in Warwickshire – and Ann Evans has the details.
Hold onto your hats because the biggest most dramatic event is gearing up ready to roll across the peaceful Warwickshire countryside this August Bank Holiday Weekend. The Tanks, Trucks and Firepower Show, presented by the Alvis Fighting Vehicle Society will be back at Dunchurch bigger and louder than ever!
There will be around 320 tanks and military vehicles on display ranging from the world record holding Challenger 1 Main Battle Tank to artillery, including SAM anti-aircraft vehicles, Land Rovers and helicopters.
Visitors will see the Falklands War Display with the tanks, vehicles and helicopters used by the UK. Helicopters will be flying in and out. More than 220 modern and WW2 re-enactors with trench systems will be on site, demonstrating living history of life during the wars.
There will be no missing the Mid-Day Gun Firing, as they will be firing the largest amount of tank shells and artillery of any show. Also in the main field will be the big tank exercises when they let loose the biggest and heaviest Main Battle Tanks outside of the British Army. The CVR(T) tank display will perform high speed mobility demonstrations that will leave you breathless. As the fastest tanks in the world they will be roaring through massive explosions and flames for visitors’ entertainment!
The ever-popular Car Crush will be going ahead. Watch in awe as a Centurion tank repeatedly drives over a car until it is crushed flat! There will also be tanks rides for which tickets can be purchased at the show. So don’t miss out on a unique opportunity to experience a drive around the arena in a British Army Spartan which is still in service.
There will be lots of fun and activities for the children plus around 20 stalls selling clothing, models, books and DVDs; plus mobile kitchens with a variety of food and drink available. There will be ample toilet facilities and if you’re making a weekend of it, camping is available too.
The AFV Society, established in 2005 is the largest collection of post war tanks and fighting vehicles in the UK. And the man at the helm is military vehicle expert, Andrew Baker. He said, “We managed to run the show last year as lockdown eased for a while, taking extra special precautions. In fact, we were the only military show that took place in 2020. This year, while restrictions have eased, we will still be playing it very safe regarding Covid.
“We’re looking forward to the show, there’s so much going on. Pyrotechnic displays, helicopters flying in, landing and taking off again; car crushing, the CVR(T) tanks doing high speed mobility, the mid-day guns being fired. It’s going to be an amazing event.”
The Tanks Trucks and Firepower Show takes place August Bank Holiday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday 28th, 29th 30th August 2021. Gates open at 10am with free onsite parking.
