Miniatura, the show dedicated to all things miniature is preparing for its 70th show. Ann Evans gives us a preview of what to expect.

Miniaturists from all around the UK and abroad, are currently busying themselves creating more miniatures and new designs to exhibit at the Miniatura Show which takes place this weekend, 24th-25th March at the Birmingham NEC.

Miniatura features only the very best miniature artisans who create the most intricate and delicate works of art of all things associated with dolls, dolls houses, furniture, accessories, ornaments, lighting, food and much more. They work in 1/12th and related scales – right down to quarter scale (1/48th) and even as small as 1/144th which is one twelfth of one twelfth. The work these skilled craftspeople create really has to be seen to be believed.

As well as bringing the very best miniaturists all together in one place, Miniatura is known for being a friendly show where exhibitors are always delighted to talk to the visiting public about their work.  There are workshops enabling people to try out a new skill and talks by experts in their particular field.

The scope of the miniatures ranges from humorous and quirky to elegant period pieces, and everything in between. The show also features a variety of miniaturist clubs and societies who are always happy to talk to people about their organisation; they will be displaying examples of members’ work, as well as running workshops. Amongst those planned for Spring show are the British Polymer Clay Guild, The Miniature Needlework Society, Warley Model Railway Club, Rugby Miniaturists and W.A.D.D.H.A.M.S.

The team behind Miniatura are Andy, Bob and Muriel Hopwood. Organiser, Andy Hopwood says: “We’re very excited about our 70th show, it’s a real milestone. It’s going to be a very special event for us, but also many of our exhibitors are marking the occasion by creating new anniversary pieces to add to their collection. For example, Petite Properties will be launching 70 new products at the show.”

You don’t even have to own a dolls house to appreciate Miniatura, as many of the miniatures make unique presents or ornaments for your own home. Be sure not to miss this amazing show.

The 70th Miniatura Show will be held at the Birmingham NEC on 24th and 25th March 2018, marking 35 years of being at the NEC, with shows each spring and autumn. Sign up for their newsletter to keep up to date with everything that’s happening.
