The latest Speakeasy to grace the Capital is neatly tucked away in EC3’s buzzing Leadenhall market – this 1920’s style bar is impressively themed against the backdrop of the American Prohibition (the constitutional ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol – gasp!).

Boasting an authentic interior and a vibrant cocktail menu, if you’re looking for an escape away from the City’s fanfare this summer then look no further than this quirky cubbyhole. Wedged along the historic Lime Street, it’s easy to miss the entrance to this underground time-machine (Pstttt its next to the Nandos!). Once you’ve gathered your bearings and made your way down the dim-lit stairwell, you’ll soon note the impressive attention to detail in both atmosphere and decor Let the pendant lamps and tall candles light the way towards your seats whilst you pass an expose of vintage photographs and news-clippings from a bygone era.

The Bootlegger joins the elite London cocktail scene with its inventive mixes and eye-catching presentation. The Grey Goose based ‘Giggle Juice’ incorporates a delightful Ginger Punch to give your taste buds a pleasant reckoning. Looking for something punchier? – the Jake Walk’s spiced rum and fresh chilli mix is sure to get you fired up. Alternatively, the Mac n Squeeze offers an exotic fruity mix charged with vodka.

There’s also a tasty selection of meat platters and cheese boards to mix and match from which can be seamlessly paired with the cocktails and wine on offer. The Duck Prosciutto and Red Hawk cheese is a personal favourite!

Open until 3am on Friday and Saturday, the Bootlegger is perfect for those night owls wanting to party on into the early hours. Live DJ sets set the tone for a buzzing night out! (If you’re looking for somewhere to have a quiet chat with friends, I’d opt for an early weekday sitting.)
