A Place to Stay; The Globe, Warwick.
Ann Evans visits The Globe in Warwick
There is so much to love about The Globe hotel and restaurant in historic Warwick. It’s steeped in history, dating from 1788 when The Globe Inn was a Commercial and Posting House. In the early 1800s this Grade II listed building became a theatre for plays and pantomimes situated where else but on the corner of Theatre Street, just a few minutes walk from the famous Warwick Castle.
A refurbishment in the autumn of 2018 by Oakman Inns gave The Globe a stunning new look. Living up to its name, there’s a wonderful historic and classic theme of exploring the globe. The furnishings and décor feel luxurious and comfortable, the bar welcoming, and the new open kitchens and large wood-fired oven where you can watch those hand-crafted pizzas made in the Neapolitan style and other dishes being cooked for you, is mouth-watering entertainment in itself.
They have a wide-ranging Mediterranean-themed menu, serving food and drinks all day from breakfast, brunch, lunch, sharers, starters, wood-fired pizzas, pastas, salads, burgers, sides roasts, Josper-grilled steaks and fish dishes. In fact, many of the dishes are cooked over charcoal in the Josper grill. Plus, there are delicious desserts and a great kids’ menu which includes an activity pack. They pride themselves on using British meats and poultry, free-range eggs, responsibly sourced fish, and seasonal fruit and vegetables. Each dish also clearly indicates whether a dish can be made vegetarian, vegan or gluten free.
Their extensive wine list has been compiled with guidance from Enotria & Coe, a company with 125 years’ experience in pairing food with wine. Beers are selected from a local brewery and sit alongside a range from Fuller’s.
The bar, pizzeria and dining area are filled with an eclectic mix of reminders of travel both past and present. The walls are adorned with vintage maps from all corners of the globe and a rare collection of 200 vintage postcards written from place names that have been lost for generations. These are interspersed with traditional, hand-crafted baskets made in Africa, a colourful Albanian rug, a gilded Far Eastern frieze, tribal masks and salvaged vintage pizza pans.
The new en-suite bedrooms, including a large, deluxe double – and the other 16 rooms have all been individually redecorated to a super-high boutique standard using sumptuous wallpaper and hand-picked accessories bringing The Globe’s total accommodation is 18 rooms.
