A Place to Stay – Palacio de Oñate, Guadix, Andalusia
Guadix is well-known for its troglodyte districts but it wasn’t a cave that took me there on a recent visit. It wasn’t the first time I’d been by any means, Guadix touches me and no matter how many times I visit I am charmed. This visit was an overnighter with hubby. It wasn’t a posh hotel for Luxury Spain Travel or a Boutique Hotel for Only Spain. It was a whim. I saw an offer for a night with a spa circuit in Palacio de Oñate, bought it and suddenly the three month offer was coming to a close so off we went – on Halloween as the voucher expired on the 31st October!
The rather imposing former palace just two minutes walk from Guadix cathedral was worth every centimo of the 49€ including the spa circuit. Our room was clean tasteful and a good size. Having already had an explore and a glass or two we thought we better check in and glad we did were told we’d better dump our bags and head to the spa as it closed in 1hr 10 minutes. Our ‘cheap ticket’ said 30 minute spa session. We weren’t checked in or out, were one of two couples there and spent longer than 30 minutes wallowing, relaxing and absolutely could have gone straight to the large and very comfy bed. But went out for (free) tapas and a glass or two instead!
When in Guadix don’t feel the need to stay underground, the Palacio is welcoming, central and has a roof terrace with views. Would I go again? Yes and I’d pay full price too.–
