When we were on a beach trip in Narbonne, we wanted to have some seafood.

On the tripadviser we were looking for restaurants with a good rating, but we were surprised by the opening hours. In the Czech Republic, we are used to having lunch hours between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, but in any case the restaurants are open all day and will cook you anytime between about 11:00 am and 10:00 pm. But this does not apply here. Here are most restaurants closed between 15:00 and 19:00, and if it happens to be open, no one will cook you (or at least no one cooked for us). Because we didn’t know this, we were hungry in Narbonne.

The hunt for seafood continued in Carcassonne. It was harder in the historic town of Carcassonne, but we found the Gil restaurant outside the walls. And we were glad for that.

Restaurant Gil is an inconspicuous restaurant that can be accessed by stairs down from t32 Route Minervoise, 11000 Carcassonne. When you enter, it looks like a cozy cellar. The kitchen is partially open, you can see the grill. The staff is very nice and helpful. The staff can speak English, but they do not have menus in English. It is possible to pay by card.

As for food, we ordered mussels (11 euro) and tuna steak (18 euro). The mussels were on white wine, along with fries and baguette. Tuna was with potatoes and carrots. Both meals were delicious! Unfortunately, it filled us so much that we had nothing else. But I recommend a plate full of different seafood that cost from 20 euros upwards. The staff will also help you choose the best wine or drink for your meal.

So if you have a trip through Carcassonne and want to have a seafood, I strongly recommend visiting Chez Gil!
