moving

moving

It’s official I hate moving! Not only do I hate moving, but I hate the whole palaver of packing and unpacking. I feel like I am a presenter on Storage Wars, because quite frankly I no longer know what is in the boxes that are stacked around me. Indeed each time I open a box it is a surprise because it is never what is written on the box.

Whilst, on the subject of packing, I must comment on the quality of brown parcel tape. What has happened to the quality of brown parcel tape?  No longer is it strong and suitable for parcels or even all that sticky. Indeed, you stick it on a box and the stuff lifts off again. Oh dear, I know I have had enough of packing because my thoughts are firmly fixated on bubble wrap and the quality of parcel tape.

At present I look like a bedraggled rat, I have lumping boxes around and unpacking for what seems like an eternity. I now dream of the move being over and of gaining order again, but the reality is that I have just four days left to complete my business move and then I have a month of moving home. By the time all the moving is over I will be an expert on packing…I wonder if there is any call for after dinner speakers who talk about the demise of parcel tape?  Hmmm, I don’t know whether there is much call in Wales for talks entitled, ‘The Rise and Fall of Parcel Tape’, but perhaps I could tempt them with ‘The Power of Positive Packing’.

On a serious note I must admit that I am looking forward to having a decent office again and I am hoping to get back to daily blogging. I managed to build up my blogging readership last year to over 20,000 readers per month and I was getting a good social media following as well, then the new year dawned and I got busy with the move. So, my into the New Year resolution is to make 2019 the year that I get organised and address the beast known as social media. I have neglected Facebook and Twitter and haven’t even got started on Instagram. Yes, I am in the dark ages when it comes to social media and it’s got to change.

Apart from packing and fiddling about with packing related activities I have been messing about with marmalade as the competition season has come round again. It feels like only a few months ago that I was entering last years competitions, but alas, The Great Taste Awards and The World’s Original Marmalade Awards are here again. I have just about got my entries in and I must say that it was all a bit of a rush this year and I am rather chuffed that I got to participate at all. However, no sooner was my marmalade off in the post and the British Pie Awards opened, I am pinning my hope this year on my entry of a rather delicious cherry pie, although it is all dependent on me not eating the brandy soaked cherries before they reach the pie case.

This year I have quite a few festivals and shows to attend and I am really looking forward to not just attending the festivals, but to selling my wonderful pies and marmalades. The hard work of moving to better business premises will be worth it as I will have a wonderful commercial kitchen and will be able to get my range of products to market. I have to keep reminding myself of this, each time I stare at a wall of boxes and feel deflated.

So, once the business and house move is over, there should be just enough time to grab a quick cuppa and take a deep breath before completing my book on the Dark History of Tea and preparing for festival season. I will without fail be taking a holiday this year!

Well, the brown tape is waiting for me, so I had better grab a box.
