GAYDON LAND ROVER SHOW
By Ann Evans
The British Motor Museum always has lots of fantastic motor related family events going on. Here’s a reminder from Ann Evans about the popular Land Rover Show coming soon.
It’s the return of the popular Gaydon Land Rover Show over the weekend of May 12th-13th so make sure you’ve marked it in your diaries.
Now in its fourth year it celebrates 70 years of the iconic Land Rover marque with a huge range of models on display from 1948 to the present day. In addition, the show will also celebrate 50 years of the Lightweight Land Rover and aims to highlight the history of Land Rover’s development, as well as feature vehicles from rival brands such as the Austin Champ and Austin Gipsy.
Diana Tigwell, the renowned compere and commentator, will be here leading an enthusiastic and very knowledgeable arena team. Together they will provide arena commentary and will invite owners, restorers, top crews from Land Rover motorpsort, club members, alongside the movers and shakers and enthusiasts of the world of Land Rovers to share their stories.
2018 will see the return of the popular ‘Best Dressed’ exhibitor competition with certificates and prizes for the best turned out owners and drivers. VIP Guest Judges will be looking for exhibitors’ authenticity and attention to detail to match dress to the age of their vehicle. Visitors are very welcome to join in and can chose an era or personality from any part of Land Rover history.
There will be a special parade through the arena for children to showcase their vintage and modern mini Land Rovers. The fiercely competitive Land Rover team quiz, hosted by motoring journalist and Quiz Master and Dave Barker, will take place again with rounds on both days leading to the grand final on Sunday, to declare the Land Rover Academician of the Year 2018. Clubs, exhibitors and visitors are encouraged to enter in teams of two, and test their knowledge on a selection of carefully chosen quiz questions. Prizes and certificates will be awarded at each round.
Retro singing trio ‘My Favourite Things’ who performed last year, will again perform a variety of live music on the Sunday and invite visitors to join in and sing along to some well-known songs. There will also be a trade area with Land Rover merchandise and vehicle parts to help with restoration projects. Visitors will also be able to visit the Museum and Collections centre which is home to a wide range of Land Rovers, including the ever popular original HUEY.
Tom Caren, Show Manager at the British Motor Museum stated “The Gaydon Land Rover Show is an absolute must for fans that want to come along and help celebrate 70 years of this iconic marque. We’re expecting thousands of enthusiasts and club members to enjoy a great family day out. Along with fabulous displays, live music, Parades and Club celebrations, the atmosphere at the show is second to none. Clubs wishing to enter vehicles into the show can do so from our website and for those wanting to make a weekend of it, camping is available.”
The British Motor Museum was recently awarded a VisitEngland Gold Accolade, the highest quality accolade available to British attractions. The accolade is only awarded to a small percentage of venues each year as part of the Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme and is testament to the continued high standards achieved at the British Motor Museum since its relaunch in February 2016.
Julie Tew, Managing Director at the British Motor Museum said “We are extremely proud to have been awarded the top accolade for the 2nd year in a row. The team work exceptionally hard in delivering a first class visitor experience. It’s great to see their hard work, high standards and commitment to excellence recognised by this accolade from VisitEngland.”
Advance tickets for the Gaydon Land Rover Show are: Adults £10, Children £6 (5-16 years) under 5 free, Concessions £10. Camping is just £10 per person for one or two or £25 for three or more occupants when booked in advance. On the day tickets and camping are more expensive.
