The BBC Good Food Show returns to the Birmingham NEC in good time for Christmas. Ann Evans provides a preview of what to expect along with some photos from previous shows.

 

Fun, food and festivities are promised for the BBC Good Food Show which returns to the Birmingham NEC this week. The four-day show starts Thursday 30 November and runs until Sunday 3 December. There’s always so much to see and do, as well as sampling a variety of produce and drinks.

With more than 400 independent and artisan retailers, it’s a great opportunity of stocking up on Christmas food and drink, kitchen products, cookery books and lots more. There are always lots of familiar faces making appearances, either at live cookery demonstrations, on the Live Stage being interviewed, and in the Kitchen Super Theatre. This year, the line-up of cookery experts includes Mary Berry, the Hairy Bikers, James Martin, Michel Roux Jr, Raymond Blanc, Tom Kerridge and Great British Bake Off champion from last year, Nadiya Hussain.

There are cookery masterclasses, such as a turkey carving masterclass – ideal if you want to show your carving prowess this Christmas lunchtime. There’s also a whisky blending masterclass. Book your place at the Whisky Lounge Blending Lab to taste some classic blends, and try your hand at blending your own. You’ll be able to take home a miniature bottle of your own whisky creation.

If looking at all this food makes you hungry, there are Pop Up Restaurants where you can sit down and enjoy some good food as you plan the rest of your day. On the menu will be some of the most popular recipes from the BBC Good Food Magazine’s Christmas issue.

CAMRA’S Great British Beer Experience makes a welcome return. The Campaign for Real Ale and Beerhawk will be hosting tutored beer tastings, providing an opportunity to explore new tastes and learn about the art of brewing, as well as gaining an insight into the diversity of real ale.

And if it’s a signed cookery book you’re after, some of the celebrity chefs who have new books out will be taking time each day to meet fans and sign their books. There will also be a Pop Up Bookstore stocking all the latest cook books.

Something not to be missed if you are in the food business, is the Producers Bursary Awards which are back for the 8th year. The BBC Good Food Show is supporting food and drink producers in the artisan and speciality food industry by hosting the Producers Bursary Awards. The campaign offers small, outstanding British and Irish producers the opportunity of exhibiting for free at one of the BBC Good Food Shows.
