Get a slice of the action at Homeslice
No-frills pizzeria Homeslice boasts a selection of innovative thin-crust wood fire pizzas, bringing a welcome change to Shoreditch’s ever-growing (and ever edgier) pizza scene. From ‘Spiced Lamb with Savoy Cabbage and Sumac Yoghurt’ and ‘Anchovy, Kalamata Olives and Caramelised Onions’ to household favourites such as Magherita and Caprese, each pizza packs a serious punch of flavour, aromas and spices to keep you hungry for more.
What may appear as lacking in menu choice (just 10 pizzas – no starters, desserts or sides) is more than compensated for in quality and taste – a worthwhile compromise. Each pizza comes in at 20 inches for a neat £20. The perfect size for sharing.
If you’re stuck on what to choose, the staff will be happy to accommodate a 50/50 split – keeping variety in mind and disagreements at bay! You can even order a limited selection of pizzas by the slice – ideal for those seeking a light bite or wishing to sample.
Looking for something to wash that down with? There’s a selection of craft beers, wines, cocktails and soft drinks on offer. The lemony lemonade gives a refreshing zing to accompany any home-slice!
I’d advise you to leave behind any table etiquette at the entrance. Shoreditch’s Homeslice does away with cutlery and offers patrons a simple pizza cutter and paper plates. So be prepared for things to get a little messy… mind you, the stash of endless paper napkins goes some way to curb any pizza faces or hungry jeans!
The decor is simple yet effective. Spread over two levels, a dim-lit cosy setting invites you in. The wooden chairs can get a little uncomfortable after some time, but it adds an odd charm to the place that’ll soon start to grow on you. The atmosphere is something of an underground den, where all the cool kids retreat to for some no-nonsense wholesome grub.
Location means this branch can get particularly busy in the evenings and weekends. So if you want to guarantee yourself a spot, be sure to book in advance. Whilst the culinary scene of EC1 continues to evolve, there’s no disputing Homeslice will remain a central feature of this movement for some time to come.
