Mumbai Memoir 67- A musical night in Mumbai!
I have always been passionate about Music. Besides being a lyric writer in English, Marathi and Hindi languages, I have mingled into learning the guitar (still at beginners level though). I have amateurly composed few of my own songs and irrespective of genre, I see myself to be an avid music appreciator.
A part of my professional commitment is to teach Personality Development skills to an educational institution named Sound Ideaz Academy, Andheri, Mumbai, India. The academy is dedicated to professionally train future sound engineers. A sound engineer, who usually is a ‘back stage’ artist is a professional associated with the sound, music and media industry. Creating quality Sound Engineers who would serve the media industry in times to come, has always been the core intention in the mind of the academy’s Founder-Director Mr. Pramod Chandorkar. Himself having served the Sound & Music industry for almost 20 years, Mr. Pramod established Sound Ideaz Academy (SIA) in 2010, along with his New Jersey (U.S.A) based partner Mr. Tirthankar Das. Knowing the ups and downs of the media industry in Mumbai, Mr. Pramod vowed to start a media related academy where courses related to sound engineering would be offered, to begin with, and there after expand the scope of the academy towards offering other media related courses which are in the execution pipeline. My organization, Mind Matterz (A Psychological Guidance Unit) www.mindmatterz.net , has been associated with Sound Ideaz Academy since its genesis. Over the years, I have witnessed the academy’s convocation ceremony, which always has been a delight to attend. The students get an opportunity to understand fundamentals of ‘live sound’ set up and operations as the they conduct the ‘sound check’ under the supervision of Mr. Pramod Chandorkar and the other senior sound engineers present at the event.
The academy’s students, staff and professors give an ‘inhouse performance’ at the event and 1/4th performance time slot is given to music performers from outside. The latest convocation ceremony was conducted on 20th December 2016. The core organizing committee members and staff of SIA namely Mrs. Anjuman Saxena, Mr. Uday Chitre, Jaishwaree Belsare, Dhiren Khantawal, Prem Thakur, along with the student volunteers staged a very qualitative event. Two of the faculty members namely Mr. Rigveda Deshpande and Mr. Amrut Mahajan performed by showing their ‘whistling art’ on the tunes of Bollywood & Western numbers. Here’s a link to their performance: https://youtu.be/PX40k7-KqrQ
The most highlighting feature of the convocation ceremony was saluting India’s veteran Sound Engineers by felicitating senior most Sound Engineers like Mr. Bhansali & Mr. Kunte. A soil’s culture matters in nurturance of the seed’s potential, and I believe, that the students, who witnessed the veterans being felicitated in front of them, will draw inspiration from the occasion.
To add to my delightful musical experience that night, my friend Dhwani Gandhi, who had come from Baroda to meet me, witnessed the convocation event along with me. Dhwani being a Masters in Performing Art graduate and a professional singer herself was impressed with the overall presentation of the musical show. Popular Bollywood singer Mr. Sonu Nigam’s presence at the show set the mood for all music lovers sitting in the audience to hum songs and enjoy the moment. Dhwani and myself joined the audience chorus of ‘Lag Ja Gale’, song from Bollywood, as the instrumental music was being played in the background. Here’s its link: https://youtu.be/oD7FYjfvgyw
Dhwani so much wanted to go on the stage and perform, but due to event protocol she decided not to. But she was determined to express herself through a home video about how she was impressed by Sound Ideaz Academy’s convocation event and musical night. She sang the same song ‘Lag Ja Gale’ in her own voice and has dedicated it to the student, staff and management of Sound Ideaz Academy. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcQb6cNpN3I
All in all, the musical night that I experienced at Sound Ideaz Academy’s convocation ceremony has created positive vibrations within me. It certainly lifted my spirits as I witnessed the ambiance which was filled with beautiful voices, instrumental music and quality performances. Like is the case, when an artist intends to perform for the audience, rather than perform to prove his/her greatness, its then when his/her art elevates to a greater level. I believe, when that happens even the divine blesses the performance so that the art positively reaches the soul of the receiver! That’s exactly what I feel Sound Ideaz Academy’s musical night has achieved! Kudos!
