Battle Proms Spectacular firework finale2

Ragley Battle Proms, featured here a couple of weeks ago, saw record crowds – and raised a brilliant £8,986 for Combat Stress, the Veterans’ Mental Healthy Charity.

Around 7,000 music lovers attended the 5th annual Battle Proms at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire, bringing with them their picnics, chairs and rugs to relax in the open air and enjoy a full programme of sublime classical music performed by the New English Concert Orchestra, conducted by Douglas Coombes.

The highlight of the evening was a breath-taking display by the RAF Falcons parachute display team followed by a carefully choreographed Spitfire display to the dramatic Nimrod by Elgar.

The Battle Proms also included their signature piece, Beethoven’s Battle Symphony, performed as he intended with the full complement of 193 live firing cannons providing a thunderous percussion.

This year the Napoleonic Association joined the Battle Proms fresh from the battlefields of Waterloo, where they had participated in the Waterloo 200 programme of events, while Crown & Empire were also on hand with dramatic cavalry displays showing the ‘skill-at-arms’ that would have been seen in Belgium 200 years ago.

Each year the concert raises funds for Combat Stress, the charity which specialises in helping veterans of the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy with psychological injuries caused through service to their country. They were thrilled with the £8,986.96 raised from audience donations at the Ragley Battle Proms!

Amie Allen of Combat Stress said: “We are delighted to be working with the Battle Proms again, and to date have raised over £225,000 at various concerts over the years. We would like to offer our sincere thanks to the generous Ragley Battle Prommers, many of whom attend year on year and never fail to surprise us with their generosity.”
